After working for a few years as an in-home caregiver for the disabled, and volunteering with kids through the Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS), I've realized that I should change my working focus to kids. As a caregiver, I'm used to home maintenance and cleaning, sudden schedule changes, finding creative ways to make less than desirable activities more interesting and fun, and really engaging and relating to the people I work with. It's those relationships and interactions that really make the job special to me. Other than babysitting for my friends' kids, I've coached flag football for 4-5 year olds with the Boys And Girls Club, volunteered for 3 years with Big Brothers Big Sisters, life guarded for a summer pony camp, helped take a group of inner-city high school kids backpacking for the first time with Big City Mountaineers, and fitted kids with lifejackets Read more while working as a River Rescue tech with AMR.
