I began caring for children at a young age more out of a necessity and common practice, having a large extended family in a very rural area. However, as I grew up and went to college I fell naturally into combining my passion for environmentalism with education. I interned for a summer on Bainbridge Island, WA as an environmental instructor at IslandWood (https://islandwood.org/). For the whole summer we worked with the students to establish meaningful and lifelong relationships with the outdoors as well as with each other. I graduated in 2013 from the College of William & Mary majoring in Environmental Policy with a focus on environmental education and outreach. After college, I worked on educational farm outside of Chapel Hill, NC (http://pickardsmountain.org/), where we worked with children deemed by the court system to be "future offenders". We worked with the same children all summer to establish caring and reoccurring Read more relationships with them until they went back to school in the fall. My main focus there was to establish a secure and nurturing set of boundaries and allow the children to explore relationships with the outdoors, each other, and themselves freely within that boundary. The following two years after the farm, I worked both at a nationally awarded children's museum in Virginia (http://www.amazementsquare.com/) and as an after school nanny to a 5 - 7 year old and a 2 - 4 year old .
