Hello! My name is Scotti and I am interested in providing care for your children. Here’s some info about me: I grew up as the second oldest child in my family of six. I was changing diapers by the time I could count to ten, and have always been a little helper, carrying dolls, and waiting for the day I could be a mom. As I grew up, I became more and more interested in the natural world and why things are the way they are. This curiosity followed me throughout my life, and I found great joy explaining how and why things work to younger kids. When I was thirteen, a neighbor who ran a daycare asked me if I could lend a hand. Of course, I said! And from then on, I have been providing child care with an emphasis on exploring scientific phenomena, understanding, processing, and coping Read more with emotions and feels, using words to explain wants and needs, and understanding consent as a basis for how we interact with others. I have never used drugs, and though I am of age, I don’t find joy or satisfaction in consuming alcohol. I am up to date on all my vaccinations, and the children I watch are as well, unless medical reasons prevent inoculation. I have been driving for six years, and have never been in a car accident, involved in legal trouble, or even been late on a credit card payment. My experience: 8+ years in a daycare setting, 3 years with verbal and nonverbal children with special needs, 4 years with toddlers and infants, 4 years with children 6-11, and 3 years with adolescents and teens. Speciality and most comfortable with infants and toddlers. Areas of strength: respectful communication is of utmost importance to me. 99% of the time “because I said so” is not a sufficient answer. Instead, I feel it is important for a child to understand why an action is necessary or unnecessary. For example, “I’m sorry I pulled on your arm without asking first. There was a car coming, and I didn’t think you saw it so I pulled you out of the street. Are you okay now? I’m sorry I startled you. Let’s talk about how that made you feel.” or “When you called me a butthead, it really didn’t feel very good. It made me feel like I wasn’t worth being anyone's’ friend or valuable. Can we talk about why it isn’t okay to say hurtful words, or how words can hurt without that being the intention?” I am very patient. We as humans are constantly learning, and that process takes time. Communication and patience go hand in hand.
