Living in a smaller town in the south, I’ve always been tasked with impromtu babysitting jobs and running kids to sports and rehearsals. Once I reached my senior year, I started to babysit and, during holidays, work as a nanny for locals in my community. Living fifteen minutes from Talledega, I was exposed to the Alabama School of Deaf and Blind, which gave me the opportunity to work with deaf, blind, and children living with disabilities. Both my mother and father suffer from Cerebral Palsy, my mother’s being more severe than my father’s, and deafness, so I’m very accustomed to life that wouldn’t typically be defined as normal. I am fluent in American Sign Language and consider myself to be an extremely patient person, which is a trait I find to be important in fields such as babysitting. I’ve always been an optimistic, happy person and I seek brighten the Read more days of everyone I encounter. I’m a chatty person and I can talk to just about anyone, so whether I’m spending an afternoon at the Veteran’s home or at the nursery, I always have something to say. I have volunteered at United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham for 3 years each summer.
