ABOUT ME: Hello! My name is Kierra but I have been going by the name "Izzy" since I was 4 (I was a very stubborn 4 year old!). My partner and I recently moved to the area from New England, where we both taught at a uniquely progressive boarding high school. I worked as the head of residential life, as well as a classroom teacher. I taught many classes ranging from Geometry, Cooking classes, and my absolute favorites: Health and Sex Education. My undergraduate thesis was on the Reproductive Justice Philosophy, specifically, how the philosophy could be applied to sex education and birth work to make both more equitable, accessible, and empowering. I volunteered as a birth doula during my time in college and feel very grateful to have gotten that opportunity! EXPERIENCE: As I said above, I spent over 2 years as a residential boarding school faculty member, and Read more I spent this past fall working at the Portland Montessori School, and decided to move in a different direction in order to have a more interactive and less sedentary job. Besides my formal experience in schools, I have been babysitting and taking care of kids since I was 10 years old. In college I worked for a year as a live-in nanny for a family with a 2.5-year-old, and consistently babysat for my teachers' children in high school and college. I have always loved kids and am comfortable with children of any age. Though my degree is in the humanities, I also have taken high-level math classes throughout college (Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations) and am comfortable helping with math homework or any other coursework for any grade level! I have tons of crafting and cooking/baking experience, love exploring the outdoors with kids, and have a very playful but very kid-friendly dog who is always down to hang out (if kids are interested!). ADDITIONAL SKILLS: I am a very experienced (vegetarian) chef and baker. I have a lot of fiber arts and crafting skills as well. COVID: I am vaccinated and boosted and consistently wear a mask when I am indoors or in crowded spaces.
