I am looking for families to babysit for in the Portland area, mainly evenings/date nights but also available for the occasional weekend day. I have just started a new position as a nanny and household manager for a wonderful family in SE, and just spent the past two years as a nanny for a beautiful little girl in NE (where I also live). I have many years of experience, am very comfortable with infants, and like engaging children in activities that support their growth and development and that are fun too! I began working with a professional nanny agency in 1998 and was placed with a family in Darien, CT for one year. The family had four children under 5. Through a second agency I was placed with a family in Woodstock, CT for two years. The family had two children, 2.5 months and 3.5 years old. I moved to Read more Boston to attend college from 2001-03, during which time I worked as a live-in afterschool household manager/nanny for a family with two older kids. After graduation, I worked as a live-out nanny for three families in the Boston area, all with young children (newborn-5 years old). I grew up in Oregon on an organic farm. A healthy diet and lifestyle are important to me. I enjoy creating healthy meals and snacks. I am an outdoor-oriented, creative, well-grounded, responsible person with a simple, somewhat "back-to-basics " philosophy toward childrearing. I place emphasis on creativity over entertainment. I don't believe children under two should watch television and that it should be used sparingly for older children. I advocate for activities that are engaging like imaginative play, creative arts, being outside, doing puzzles, practicing letters/colors/numbers etc., rather than passive activities like watching television and playing video games. I ensure that the children in my care are safe, nurtured and loved and I look for every opportunity to teach children about the world around them and create opportunities for them to learn. I am very active in my role as caregiver and like to seek out fun and engaging experiences to share with them. --8 years experience as a private nanny and household manager, represented by top agencies, in Connecticut and Massachusetts. --16 years of experience as a child care provider --B.A., Emerson College, Boston, MA (Writing, Literature, and Publishing). --2 years of experience at Family Building Blocks in Salem in the infant and toddler classrooms for therapeutic development and intervention.
