Hi! My name's Amelia -- although I usually go by Mia -- and I have built huge portions of my life around loving taking care of kids. As a PSU student, I am studying Psychology and Spanish, hoping to become a play therapist and/or school counselor. I currently run Rose Haven Day Shelter's family services each week, leading volunteers and serving as the main kid-wrangler. I'm an intern, but I'm mostly known as the translator-on-demand and giver of toys. This past summer, I moved to Jalisco, Mexico and poured myself into volunteering at a kids' refuge (improving a ton with my Spanish!). I spent 4 years as a camp counselor before covid hit, working with girls ages 5-14 and have provided free childcare for several families, both those connected to my family experiencing homelessness as well as through Sunday schools. Most of my experience working with kids has been through Read more volunteering, and I've found that this has made my connection to these special moments that much more valuable. As I transition to a new stage of my life and my internship at Rose Haven is coming to an end, I've decided that I want to spend way more of my time doing what I love and spending time caring for kids.
