I have always looked for opportunities to work with children throughout high school and college. I've done a lot of babysitting for family members and friends. I have 3 nieces and 3 nephews all of whom I have helped take care of from birth. I have volunteered in different settings with a wide range of age groups. For example, as a Sunday school teacher for a year, working with ages 10 to 13. I was also the church youth leader that same year, ages 13 to 18. I planned, prepared and lead activities for the youth. Additionally, I was a camp counselor for my church youth camp and juniors camp. Furthermore, I have volunteered at two different hospitals, on the pediatrics floor, alongside Child Life Specialists (Kadlec Regional Medical Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance). I also volunteered at Ronald McDonald House Charities with a great program called Camp to Read more you, which ‘brings’ camp to children who are not medically able to go to camping. I worked at a preschool in downtown Seattle, during my senior year of college, and was given the great opportunity to work with a diverse group of children in that area. I worked with a group of corps members to implement early childhood curriculum to children ages 3 to 5. I believe it gave me the experience needed to continue working with young children in any setting. After graduating college, I worked at a Montessori school and worked there for over a year with children ages 3 to 6. I'm also thankful for working at this school because I have gained a lot of knowledge through their philosophy and creative ways of teaching. My hope now is to continue to grow in knowledge and experience with children by working with them as a nanny.
