I have 7+ years working in childcare (ages 0-18), including 2 years in a Montessori infant- toddler classroom. I also spent 9+ years working in Organic Agriculture and Ecology, including building and maintaining children’s gardens, inter-generational gardens, youth gardens and running tours, classes, workshops, and programs for children and youth aged 3-18 centering around gardening, and Ecology. I strive to bring a calm, welcoming, and safe presence for the child and believe in acting as a constant model of grace and courtesy for the child to emulate. I also believe in holding the child in consistent positive regard. I am dedicated to interacting with children as beings who are worthy of respect, empathy, patience and understanding. When working with children I am constantly trying to better refine myself, to stop and ask myself what I can do to better understand where they are coming from and how I can meet Read more their needs in a given situation. I am also a firm believer that children thrive when the adults in their life are consistent and firm but gentle in upholding boundaries. I understand that you as the parent are the most important person in your child’s life, and you know them and their needs better than anyone. I am happy to respect all of your boundaries, and follow your lead in making a plan of how I can best support you in caring for your child. I’ve also continued to do additional research and further reading outside of work on holistic approaches to childcare and education. I plan on pursing a credential in 0-3 Montessori education, and a credential in REI (Respectful Infant Educaring.) It is important to me to keep up to date with current literature and progressive methods of education and childcare whether it be through books, YouTube channels, Instagram accounts, or workshops.
