In addition to having taken care of my great grandmother full time, I've taken care of watching kids like my neice. It's not my most experienced position, but children mean a lot to me and I'd absolutely love to play a positive role in any kid's development. My belief is that children need, more than anything, validation. Everything they do, at least in their minds, is magical and deserving of attention. Praise is necessary. Not every child will do something 'praise-worthy' though; making a mess, destroying something... but they can't have their ideas on the world shattered by making a mistake. They need to be told, in the calmest voice and with a gentle expression, that what they've done wasn't right. Never doubt a child's ability to learn -- if it's explained properly, they'll understand.
