My father had Alzheimer's and I took care of him until his death. I became very active in the nursing home and eventually became the volunteer activity director. I became a friend to all the patients and would bring in treats such as cookies or ice cream, I also coordinated with fruit sellers as well as bakeries to bring their excess products to the home. After my father's death I joined eldercare and would be a companion to the patient while their spouse went out and could relax. Taking care of dementia patients isn't easy so I joined hospice and did that as a volunteer for several years. Afterwards I joined a religious order that runs nursing homes and hospitals. I did not stay long since my job would not allow me hands on care of patients.
