Two years full-time with an autistic boy, beginning when he was 6 years old, serving as teacher, motor skills trainer, social skills trainer, friend, companion, and shadow. Four years as life skills mentor and staff training consultant in private school for autistic and special needs students. I have a broad education and varied work experience including 8 years with Texas State Parole Division of Department of Criminal Justice. This included interviewing re-incarcerated parole violators unable to understand what was required of them, setting them up with hearings if so desired, and obtaining legal counsel if needed. Working with youth is more rewarding to me personally, and I have discovered that I connect well with people on the autism spectrum. I am also more comfortable working in the private sector than in larger institutional settings.
