I’ve never been a paid sitter before, I’d typically just do it for free for family and friends, but I love kids! They honestly give me a genuine happiness, seeing how children grow, and how open minded they are and how creative they are it just honestly blows my mind. I’m a Psychology major and my whole being about emotions and behaviors i’ve learned a lot, that is actually the reason why I am doing psychology just because one day I would love to be a mom, and learning how to deal with certain situations with the kids in a more effective and rational way. There has been an incident where one of the kids i was baby sitting actually hit theyre sibling and the way I resolved that was by having a clear and calm conversation with the kids, I simply started by asking him how he felt, and Read more of course he was pretty upset and then I went to asking why he felt mad and he explained how his brother took his toy, pretty understandable, basically i just firmly explained to him how hitting is not nice, hitting can hurt feelings. I did give him a 10 minute power break to calm him down, while he was in his break I talked to his brother and I asked him his side of the story (just to make sure both of them feel validated) He told me how they were supposed to be taking turns with the toy, and how he wasn’t sharing. So after the 10 minute break i brought both of them and we had a conversation about sharing and ASKING instead of just taking things. Little things like just having a conversation and actually validating emotions can go a long way.
