Spending time with kids and learning alongside them is great, and it's also challenging. Duh. Attentiveness, fun, protection, play, encouragement, patience, honesty, apologies, real conversation, good food, and laughter are what I hope to give a family as a nanny. Here's my experience: I babysat during high school; in college I tutored grades K-8 in urban public schools; and for a summer I worked at a camp, receiving their highest accolade, the Dedication to Youth Award. For two summers during college I worked as a lifeguard and so have held First Aid certification, which is now expired. (If hired, I would be willing to renew my certification at your request.) In 2011 I planned and hosted a multi-day overnight wilderness camp for kids ages 10-13. In 2014 I lived as a tenant for one month with a young family with kids, ages 2, 4, and 10, providing occasional childcare. From Read more January through July of last year I've lived as a tenant with two other young families with kids, ages 3, 4, and 7, again providing occasional childcare, while working as a part-time cook for a retreat center, making healthy, beautiful meals for groups of 5-15 guests. I love preparing and serving good food, and I'm a pro at working with a tight budget. I currently work as a part-time nanny and family cook every weekday starting at 3pm in Brooklyn for a family with a 13-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy. It has been a great experience, and I am now looking to increase my income by working an additional part-time job in the mornings.
