Hello, my name is Shaunna! I’ve been a paid childcare worker ever since I was a young teen who would watch the same 3 girls over two summers and have done it ever since with new families! I’ve watched over all ages and of course, their furry friends as well! I am CPR certified (: Being the youngest in a family of 5, I’ve found that taking care of kids makes me feel like an older sister, which is something I obviously wasn’t able to have in my own family. For this reason, I like to be the care worker that doesn’t try to take on a prenatal role but more the role of the protective older sister. I’ve found this creates a stronger bond with the children as they feel less threatened by me and are more willing to trust and connect to me in a way that helps Read more me care for them in a more productive way. This makes the bond stronger, and therefore makes it a bit easier to have to part with their parents during our time together (which is especially helpful for the younger ones). I love what I do, I love to have fun and go on adventures so you can rest assured that I wouldn’t be the type sitting around and waiting for the time to end as that would be just as boring for me as it would for the kids ! (: I of course like to follow the discipline procedures the parents have set, I do believe kids need to be told no when it means no and given some clear structure, as I’ve found they actually love it and it makes them feel like they’re cared for (if done in a non-violent, non-verbally-abusive way) and I’m all for emotional openness rather than telling them to just “toughen up” as I don’t believe that allows for their effective growth. I’ve had many years of growing experience, and I’m confident in what I do and have learned from kids over the years.
