I was 18 years old when I received my first job as a full time nanny. I worked for the same family, with two young girls - ages 3 & 6 for about 2 years. What started as a job quickly became a relationship that I will cherish for the rest of my life. During that time, I was responsible for much of the cooking, cleaning and day-to-day home maintenance. I drove carpool, grocery shopped, supervised homework and took the kids to and from various appointments each week. We read books, went to the park, payed dress up and colored. I felt it was so important to actively participate in what the kids were doing – to get down on the floor and play the board game with them – to sit at the kitchen table and color beside them. I felt my responsibility was so much more than keeping Read more them safe, but nurturing and teaching them in each situation. It was in those small moments that I fell in love with my job and the two tiny people that I was responsible for taking care of. I have since pursed other professional avenues but my true passion is in childcare. It is the most rewarding of any job I have carried.
