Hello! My name is Melissa and I was born and raised in Newport News, Va. I am 42 years old (young!) and have two children. I have a boy that is 22 and a daughter that is 16. I also am a foster parent to a wonderful young man who is also 22. I first began working in childcare through my mom. She worked at our churches daycare and my sister and I used to go with her to work. Once I turned 15 I got my workers permit and began to work there as well! I worked with 2-12 year olds. I taught and prepared lesson plans using the abeka curriculum. I also worked for another private school/daycare where I also did the same. Whenever things get hectic or overwhelming I usually say “let’s take 5” to regroup and redirect the energy or frustration into a positive activity. My Read more 16 year old daughter is special needs and suffers from depression, anxiety and PTSD. She also has autism as well as a communication delay disorder. I have had special training as well as parenting classes through the Hampton-Newport News CSB. I am also a Personal Care Aide, meaning I am able to help with daily living activities, hygiene, medication management etc. Unfortunately my First Aid and Adult/Infant CPR license has expired, but I have retained the information and weekly brush up on my skills. I am a Christian, however, if you do not wish that religion be talked about to your children I totally respect your decision. I’m very down to earth, an open book! I’m honest to a fault at times but I believe that’s the only way you should be. While children are in my care it is important for them to learn to trust me and for them to feel the same love that they would normally get from their mom or dad! It’s hard enough leaving your children and even harder to leave them with a stranger, so I must earn your trust as well! I am pretty flexible as far as a schedule goes, but I do prefer afternoons and evenings. Thank you so much for reading and getting to know a little more about me!
