When I was younger, I always loved the babysitters that took me outside, kept me moving and imaginative, and listened to what I had to say. Now that I’m a care provider, I’m excited to do the same! Crafts, reading and writing stories, having pool time (I was on the swim team for 9 years), going to natural parks and city playgrounds, playing with puzzles, playing pretend, and the occasional ice cream treat are all well within my wheelhouse. In middle and high school, I babysat 3 children (infancy- age 7) over a period of 5 years. I fixed them healthy snacks and meals, helped with homework, played at the park, rode bikes, played music, did crafts, went to the pool, and played pretend with them. Being part of their growth was easily one of my favorite parts of high school. My parents are both Special Education teachers and I Read more have worked with children with various developmental and learning disabilities. At VCU, classes like Communication in the Helping Process, Developmental Psychology, and Nutrition have taught me more about keeping kids happy and healthy. I’ve volunteered at St. James Children’s Center and also helped to create the new community garden at Carver Elementary. I am also an experienced driver with my own transportation (a 2007 Ford Focus). I believe in treating kiddos with kindness, new ideas with enthusiasm, and meltdowns with patience.
