I'm a Nanny as a profession & I have raised 2 children who are wonderful, contributing adults - 1 boy & 1 girl, & 4 grandkids. My most current job was with a baby at 6 months & a 4 year old girl. That job sadly ended after 9 months when Grandma wanted to watch the children. So, I'm now looking for another family. I have been with 1 family for 6 years & started when he was 2 1/2 years old. It is so fun & rewarding to watch him grow & develop over the years! Another long running job was with 3 children from the same family for almost 8 years. When I started they ranged in ages from 1-6 years old. I enjoyed my job immensely! I even periodically visit when in the area. I had my own in-home Daycare while raising my own children. I also Read more taught at a church for 1-1/2 years with children from 3-15 years old while their moms were in classes. As a Nanny I was periodically left in charge while the parents left town for a week or so at a time. I was told that they would not have left them with anyone else. My jobs have included a variety of activities, including; getting the children ready for school, packing lunches, driving them to & from school & helping them with homework. I played games - inside and outside, fixed healthy lunches, cleaned up in the kitchen, straightened up the house and was versatile to the needs at hand. I especially enjoy teaching children how to eat healthy and make it fun in the process. For inside play I enjoy reading, board games, Uno & puzzles, but adapt to the interests of the child well, as I enjoy whatever we are doing. I enjoy arts, crafts, Legos, science, music, etc. Outside I enjoy walks, exploring, parks, ball playing, hide & seek, squirt guns, zoos, picnics, & a variety of things - weather permitting. Yet I still try to get outside even for a short while if at all possible. Teaching life lessons & character development I feel is so important & I like to take advantage of everyday situations to teach this. It is also fun to talk about issues of interests of the child. I believe I have a healthy balance between being in charge of the children by getting their respect & cooperation & showing them how valuable & loved they are. I also believe in engaging with the children as much as possible, along with supervising some needed alone & down time. I prefer not to use the TV or video games as a tool of entertainment. I enjoy watching children learn & grow in confidence and love!
