Hello! I am passionate about caring for and bettering the lives of young people! Right now, I work for Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium as an education specialist and I absolutely love my job! I work seasonally variable hours where I work 3-4 days a week October through April and 5-6 days a week May through September. At the zoo, I work with children age 4 through 17. We implement restorative justice tactics and base curriculum on Next Generation Science Standards. I have worked with children for my entire career. Before working at the Zoo, I was a lead teacher at a professional childcare/preschool facility. The school was very unique - it was housed inside a long term care facility and young people learned and grew alongside aging folks. I was the outdoor specialists lead for the school, taking preschool aged kids on small field trips weekly and outdoor exploration Read more daily. I worked with ages 6-weeks-old to 5-years-old. I implemented a problem solving focused discipline style. Before that, I was a lead teacher at a Kindergarten outdoor Farm and Forest school. I developed all curriculum for the school and lead daily outdoor classroom activities, interactions with animals, and implemented Conscious Discipline tactics and Regio Emilio inspired pedagogy. I worked with kids age 4-7. Before moving to Washington, I lived in Portland and worked at a non-profit focused on empowering youth through financial literacy education. I managed a program for middle school and high school students that taught real-life skills. I served over 17,000 students a year in that role. For summers and part time throughout the year, I worked as an environmental educator at a nature center outside Portland. I worked with children age 3-13, leading classroom environmental lessons and outdoor exploration. In college, I studied environmental policy and education and have since follow my passion for guiding youth learning outside! I was asked to nanny by multiple families after leaving working at the preschool and have a proven record of providing excellent care and fostering great relationships with my clients! I am fast paced, hardworking, agreeable, and haven't met a kid I can't get along with. I love focusing on my silly side and helping kids learn and grow through play. I am in love with being outside and animals and would appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow more with your kiddo(s) too!
