I'm a recent Masters graduate in Communication Disorders. I'll be a practicing Speech Language Pathologist in the public schools this fall but until then I'm looking to help with your kiddo. My passion, of course includes communication in all modes; speaking, reading, writing, listening and reading. This also includes social communication and interactions. My belief is that all of these things are generally learned through lots of play, games, reading and experiences. Children that are able to not just communicate their wants and needs but also their feelings, hopes, thoughts and worries are the happiest children and grow into capable and successful individuals. I have worked in Japan, teaching English to children from 6 months to 18 years old. During my masters program I have had experience working with children from 29 months to 17 years old. My experience has been with normal children that need help with pronunciation to Read more special populations including autism, hearing loss, Down syndrome, William syndrome, developmental delay, sensory processing disorder, apraxia and cerebral palsy. My thoughts on working with any child is that they tend to succeed when they have a regular schedule, given clear guidelines for what is expected and what will happen if they don't follow the guidelines, give them options whenever possible so that they feel more empowered and given as many experiences both inside and outside of the house. I don't agree with bribing children with food/sweets and like to see them well nourished with whole foods.
