I am a part time graduate student with a 4 month old daughter (who will accompany me to work). I have taken care of children of every age, from babies to high school seniors, and have a particular affinity for elementary school children (could third graders get any better?). I have a minor in Elementary Education from Middlebury College, and spent my years there working at a Reggio Emilia preschool, and at the local elementary school. I have studied Montessori and Reggio methodologies, and am familiar their child based learning structure. I spent three summers in college working at a day camp in Massachusetts, as the primary counselor for groups of 15-18 elementary aged boys. Their energy and enthusiasm made the work easy and and enjoyable. After graduation, I taught English at a Middle school in Massachusetts for a year. I spent a decade working in the restaurant industry, where I have learned about food systems, cooking, wine, and hospitality. I have always loved to cook, but now I have a number of useful skills to use as well as a refined palate. I have worked with high school youth groups for 6 years, one in Massachusetts before I moved to Seattle, and for 5 years here. We meet weekly as a whole group to discuss how our (liberal) faith informs social justice and how we live our lives as individuals and as communities. I am also a healthy eater and cook. Because of my work in restaurants, and my personal inquest into food systems in our country and the world, I am a vegan, although I respect the food choices of others. My focus as a vegan is to encourage myself, and those I cook for, to be healthy, avoiding the mainstream processed food our culture promotes, and create nutritious habits for long healthy lives.
