Hello! My name is Cole, I am a Taekwondo athlete and a student at Seattle University. I have 6 years of experience working with youth, here are some of my most meaningful experiences. First off, as an assistant coach at my home Taekwondo school in Portland Oregon, I would assist my head coach in training our youth team three times a week. As an athlete and team leader, I took on a mentorship role for the youth athletes inside and outside training hours. Secondly, when I was a student at Gonzaga University (go Zags!), I participated in a volunteer program where I was a mentor for a 4th-grade student at a nearby elementary school. I would see him at scheduled programming twice a week where we would do activities promoting social and emotional learning as well as educating them on the possibility of college. I would also visit his school Read more twice a week to strengthen our mentor-mentee relationship and help him with his schoolwork. Finally, as an elective for my Junior and Senior years of high school, I became an assistant teacher for a nearby elementary school. I got hands-on experience in a school environment where I helped students complete lesson plans as well as aided in conflict resolution. In my Junior year, I taught preschool, and in my Senior year, I taught Kindergarten. Some other relevant work experience with youth includes 5 years of scheduled babysitting for all age ranges, childcare volunteering at my local church, and a summer camp leader.
