Before I became an after-school teacher, I worked as a babysitter for families in my area. I have always loved working with kids and getting a chance to build trust with both them and the family. Once I started working at a kindergarten through 8th-grade school, it taught me how to multitask with not just 1-2 kids, but with 20. I worked at Cornerstone Learning Community in Tallahassee, FL, for a little over a year, which gave me ample time to connect with students and their families. I was also hired by the City of Tallahassee as a camp counselor, where I connected with a different student body and had different expectations of play. Currently, I work as a youth coach. I have learned so much about working with children of different ages, and I believe that all of my experience prepares me for almost anything. I am currently a Read more psychology and communications major at the University of South Florida, where I have taken developmental psychology classes in which we learn and write about children and how to best interact with them. These skills have helped me understand children while making it the best experience for them. Interacting with a kid is what makes it all worth it. Their smiles, laughs, and play inspire me to keep working with them.
