Caring for others has always been a way to express love for me. My service is to show others that the world can be a bit brighter when we help each other out. One of my first babysitting jobs was to take care of my niece, who at the time was 5 months old. I adored singing her to sleep, feeding her, and taking her on walks to the park. As she got older, we danced and practiced yoga together, and I'd read her stories and share my thoughts. I found myself on the floor rolling around and playing in a way I hadn't since I was a child myself. There was a balance there, and we both were teaching the other. This is why I continue to be a caregiver. This world needs more play, laughter, and support ... and a whole lot of other stuff, but you know. Read more Aside from babysitting my niece for an entire summer (4 days a week, 7 hours a day), I have been a counselor in training (CIT) at an international sleep-away camp where I was responsible for co-leading activities and supervising 12+ girls (ranging in age from 6-10) in a cabin. I am a certified yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance and have taught yoga for 8 years. Of all the experiences I've had teaching, my absolute favorite was a couple summers ago working with children ranging in age from 6 to 11. I designed and implemented a 3-week children's yoga program for RMH Wellness Center's summer camp. Among activities, we practiced yoga and learned about mindfulness through conversation and crafting. When I lived in DC, I nannied for a family of two girls, who were 7 and 10 at that start of a two-year relationship. This experience was the crux of my babysitting experience. I felt part of the family in many ways- cooking dinner, running errands, making the crafts for each holiday, implementing more play and mindfulness after school, etc. I feel like I got to help raise these girls.
