Hi, my name is Avalon and I’m a rising NYU junior. I worked as a camp counselor at Saratoga Springs with kids aged 4-12 last summer, where I got my CPR and First Aid certification. This past school year, I worked as a babysitter for an NYU family with a 4-year-old girl. For roughly 8-10 hours per week, my duties mostly included picking up the girl from school, playing with her, and feeding her. I have really enjoyed my experience working in childcare, especially when I’ve had the chance to bond with a kid over a longer period of time and see them come out of their shell. I always do my absolute best to make sure that the kid I am watching is being heard. I’ve noticed that younger kids’ feelings especially can be overlooked or misunderstood, but I think it’s very important to listen, validate them, and help Read more them sort through their emotions. I love having fun and I’m always up for a game of make believe, arts and crafts, or anything else. When I’m not working, I’m often writing (I’m double majoring in Screenwriting and Journalism), making jewelry, hiking, or spending time with my dog.
