I have worked at the daycare at my home church in Austin; every 3 weeks, Sunday morning, I would get assigned to a classroom with about 5 to 6 children, and me and my partner would take duty to take care of them, just as any daycare would, for the whole church service. And most of the time, I would be assigned to pre-k to kindergarten children. I also went on plenty of mission trips around the country, in which my youth group volunteered to refurnish some local daycares, and during that time, some of the youth were assigned to work as daycare leaders and supervise the children. And in that time, I got kids ranging from pre-k to eight grade. I also have fond memories of working at VBS in various locations; VBS, Vacation Bible school, was a week long summer program that was held by all churches internationally. Read more And in it, anyone past 6th grade could be a team leader, and that would require us to pair up with one other youth and lead a number of children throughout that week. Through that program, I learned how to handle kids in chaotic and exciting events, as you can imagine, as a fun summer camp, it would have been very chaotic to manage about 8 to 9 elementary kids, in the midst of dozens of other groups with that same amount of elementary kids, in one church building. Now that I am in college, I work at an organization called Baylor Buddies. It is a mentor program where the company assigns every college kid to one child, 8th grade and under, and we have an year long commitment to be their mentor every one day of every week. I am assigned a 6th grader at the moment and I attend her middle school every Wednesday; we usually sit there and talk for an hour about anything that's on her mind, or we like to make jokes while drawing silly pictures. As for myself, I am a very hands-on, creative person, and I love films and music. I like to stay active as long as I can, but by the end of the day, I do like to settle down and have a moment to relax and reflect on the day. I enjoy meeting new people, whatever age, culture, they may be, I love hearing about it and immersing myself in something new.
