Hello all, My name is Sydney Shannon and I have been working with children and youth in various roles for 16 years. Some of my roles have included nanny, mother's helper, caregiver to child with special needs, teacher, coach, tutor and many more. I have earned my Bachelor's Degree in Child and Adolescent Development and my Master's Degree at NYU studying Sociology of Education. In my work with toddlers and infants I promote exploration and intrinsically motivated activities, along with lots of love and nurturing. With children this age, and most other ages, I find it very important to maintain consistency whenever possible for a healthy happy child and family. I absolutely love taking children on adventures, or if weather doesn't permit exploring the "jungle" or "magical kingdom" in the home. Imagination and creativity in play and school work are something I try to foster in order to increase motivation Read more and engagement. My work in youth serving programs has also taught me the importance of boundaries and expectations. As a teacher and leader in these settings, I have learned techniques to respond to emotional outbursts and lack of motivation in children and youth. I would love to apply these skills once again as either a tutor, nanny, sitter or mentor. If you have a child who loves reading (or needs some motivation to read more), loves exploring (or has yet to find their inner investigator), or a child who can appreciate a good silly song, I can be here to help. Thanks for reading. I hope to meet you soon.

We were in a babysitting pinch about four months ago and were grateful to find Syd on sittercity. She has taken care of our preschooler and our baby part time since then; alas we, are moving out of town. We wish we could take her with us! She is absolutely great about coming up with activities for the kids. She builds forts, paints, makes ooblek and more with our big kid. And she has taught the baby a bunch of baby signs. Both of them clearly adore her. She has also always been on time and available if we need her to stay late. I highly recommend Syd for kids of all ages. She rules.
