I am a natural caregiver. I have had the honor to care for my cousins, sister, God daughters, nephew, and a few others as they grew from children into adults. I also gave up my apartment and moved in with my grandparents to care for them in the final years of their life. They didn't want to leave the home they raised their family in so I had the pleasure of preparing meals, housekeeping, showering my nana, making sure they took their medications and stayed on top of their health with doctor appointments. I also got to take my nana to her genealogy group, escort them both to church, and anywhere else they wanted/needed as they both could no longer drive. It never felt like work as caring for and helping others is so rewarding and fulfilling to me. My grandmother's legs were very bad so I made sure to always assist her when getting in/out of bed, chairs, or using the restroom. I gave special care to my papa as he battled (and beat☺️) colon and skin cancer. I did all of this while attending school at Everest Institute in an accelerated program for Medical Administration. I graduated top of my class with all honors and a 4.0 GPA. I say all this because although I may not have 'professional experience' in caring for others, I have a lifetime of real life experience in caring for those of all ages.
