I've always had a passion for caring for children, but it wasn't until my return from a three week trip to Kenya where I worked with orphaned children that I committed to making child care my life's purpose. I've been caring for children for 25 years. I believe my job is not simply to care for a child's physical needs, but I also feel like I have an obligation to care for their mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. To that end, depending on the age of the child, we do many things together. When they're little, there should be stimulation through talking, singing, reading, movement, etc. At this point, it will be my job to support, love, and encourage them to reach each milestone. When the kids are a bit older, they have come with me to neighborhood book stores for story time, gone to kiddie gym classes, when in Read more season we've explored the local farmers market, learned how to cook food from scratch (from the food store, through the cooking process, into their mouths) and there's always the adventures in the park. We then branch out into picking pumpkins for Halloween at the local farm, special shopping time for holidays or events, specialized art projects for the current season, "grown up day out " - lunch and a movie, and sleepover parties. While there's a lot of fun to be had we only get to partake in that once all of our household responsibilities have been taken care of such as homework, chores, rooms are tidy and beds made, and clothes away in the closet or the hamper. I feel that every child has a voice and should be listened to. Children should be allowed to express themselves verbally, artistically, and physically through sports, dance, martial arts, etc. But they also need to learn to express themselves respectfully and responsibly. Children absorb everything around them; even when you think they're not listening. I feel that it is up to us as adults to make their experience a great one and give them correct tools to advance in life. I feel that my job is to be a part of your team carrying out your wishes and continuing your discipline when you cannot be there. As you choose a child care provider you should be assured that the care taker is as invested and caring of your child as you are and that is what I try to bring to each family I work for.
