I am a rising second year college student looking for a summer job. I love being around kids and have worked with them in various ways for a great portion of my life. I enjoy meeting new people, playing games, and helping out where I can. Some of my hobbies include skiing, hiking, and arts & crafts. Due to my school using the quarter system, I will not be home and able to start until June 17th. However, this does allow me to go further into the summer as I do not leave until August 25th. Thank you for your consideration, I hope I can be a role model and assist your family! I volunteered at my old elementary school for two summers and assisted with the camp activities. I was a junior counselor at a sleep away camp where I led a group of girls in various backcountry activities Read more including trail work, camping, and backpacking. Up until now, I have worked at a community center. During the school year, they have an after school homework club where I would assist and supervise kids in grades K-5th. Some of my duties included keeping them engaged in their work, helping where they had trouble, and providing them a meal. In the summers, they provide a summer camp where I would teach and supervise about 15 kids in grades K-5th. I would curate and execute lesson plans each week that implemented 4H ideals. Also, I would supervise weekly trips to various places such as the museum, park, or Oasis Family Fun Center. In each program at the community center I was responsible for cleaning the center, communicating with their families, and keeping the peace between kids. Specifically with kids, I love do outdoor activities. This can be going on walks, various sports activities, or playing with chalk. I also enjoy arts & crafts such as coloring, painting, or other creative projects. The most important part about working with children is to keep them in a safe, positive environment. I have learned that having fun, experiencing new things, and learning is so much easier to achieve when kids feel comfortable with you. In order to create that relationship, it is important to understand that you can learn so much from them. In my previous experience it has always been the best when it is established that I am the mentor, but simultaneously am also there to be their friend. It is a rewarding feeling when they feel comfortable sharing things and you have that bond.
