Hi I'm Sam Lasko. I'm an artist and MFA candidate at the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts at Bard College. I'm currently living in NYC and looking for one time or short term babysitting work through mid-September (when I'll be returning to Frankfurt, Germany where I live and work under the generous support of the DAAD before my MFA resumes next summer). While in college, I worked as a peer writing tutor, ceramics teaching assistant, and spent a semester leading garden programming for 7-12 y/o kids at the local Boys & Girls club. I also assisted in hands on clay workshops at a series of Montessori schools in the are with 5 - 8 year olds. Throughout my young adult life, I've babysat here and there, mostly for family friends and occasionally developing a consistent relationship with a family. Most recently I cared for a 3 y/old named Phyllis Read more in the fall and winer of 2018/2019. Twice a week I picked Physllis up from kindergarten, took her for walks, played outdoors, made her snacks, and relaxed with her before her parents returned home for dinner. In the summer of 2017 I spent 3 days a week from 2 - 7pm with 10 y/o twins. We stayed busy balancing the twins' varying interests but mostly managed to keep the peace. We often drove to mini-golf, the water park, or for ice cream. We also spent afternoons home making cookies, drawing, playing board games, even poker (with a mighty $2 buy-in)! I also cared for 4 and 6 year old siblings a couple days a week in the summer of 2013, for the Westman family in Deerfield. After 10 years of sporadically babysitting, I've learned to be flexible with children's often chaotic energy by maintaining a positive atmosphere, communicating sensitively, and encouraging creative play over screen time. I so enjoy connecting with kids. I'm thrilled for the Sitter City app which makes is so much easier to connect with families in the area.
