I officially started working with kids when I was 17 where I got a job as a swim instructor that I held for about two years until I moved out of state, but I've been babysitting since I was about 13. Some skills I have include getting kids to cooperate with me, de-escalating situations where a child is in emotional crisis, and using clear communication and boundaries with the kids I work with. I pride myself on helping create independence from a young age. It’s something I think is important, because it wasn’t something my parents did consistently and I wish they had. I love spazzy kids. I was a super spazzy kid and I'm very good at matching a kid's energy while also maintaining the role of an authority figure. It's important that kids see me as someone they listen to and respect, but also that they're having fun. Read more I can equally match kids who are more shy and reserved as well, and I enjoy helping kids build up their social skills and confidence. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 12, so I grew up often feeling misunderstood or even disliked by my authority figures. It's always important to me that children feel respected and heard by me as an authority figure, because I didn't feel that from my authority figures. I like to work with other neurodivergent children so I can be the type of person for them that I never had. I also just like working with kids because I'm a pretty goofy person and I feel like I can be more myself around them.
