Hi! I'm Neil, and I'm one of the more experienced sitters you'll meet here. Every childcare provider has their own strengths and areas of focus. My two greatest priorities in childcare are 1) nurturing an early love of reading, and 2) helping children to develop good character. I love reading to children, and I bring a special bag of books with me when I come to a home or school. I always try to make stories come alive, reading expressively and creating voices for each story character! 📖 The Greek philosopher Aristotle famously said: “Give me a child until he is seven and I will show you the man,” while Maria Montessori considered six to be the critical age. One thing seems clear: by the time a child reaches first or second grade, much of their character for life has already been formed and is beginning to set. That’s why Read more these earliest years are so very important, because “it is easier to mold a child than to mend a man.” Gentleness, kindness, honesty, personal responsibility— these are character traits that positively shape children’s personalities and direct the course of their lives. 🙂 CHILDCARE EXPERIENCE For me, it’s been an early and lifelong interest: 🔹Three years as a preschool teachers’ aide, (my current occupation) 🔸Seven of the past 18 months spent in infant and toddler classrooms! 🔹Taught Children’s Sunday School for 29 years 🔸Worked on an inpatient pediatric hospital ward with children from newborn to age 12 🔹At 16 years old, taught a 2&3 year olds’ Sunday School class for a year 🔸Also at 16, nannied a 6 month old baby girl for a summer 🔹Babysat for friends and neighbors from age 10 through my teens and into college ▪️My wife and I have been married for 41 years! Together we raised our 4 children (3 girls, 1 boy,) from infancy to adulthood, and then cared for 3 of our 4 grandchildren (again, 3 girls, 1 boy,) from birth, 8 to 10 hours a day for several years. SPECIAL NEEDS: I’m comfortable with medically fragile children and those with physical, developmental, or behavioral special needs. 🧩 Certifications or Special Skills: 🔺Currently certified in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR 🔺Currently certified in First Aid 🔺Completed 8 hr class in Child Safety 🔺Worked 20 years as a Navy Hospital Corpsman and 6 years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse/LVN (medical background)
