Hello! My name is Skyler and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Washington located in Seattle, WA. As I am coming back home a little earlier for the holidays I wanted to get a part time job specifically working with kids. Being an only child, taking care of others and exemplifying the role of an older sister to other children is something that has always been a passion of mine. As my goal in the future is to enter the field of pediatrics, I have spent the majority of my high school and even my earlier years traveling and volunteering working with kids. Prior to moving to Kona, I was involved at my church's summer program called Vacation Bible School where I led groups of children ranging from preschool to fifth grade. As I was a “crew leader”, I spent the week from 8 am to 3:30 Read more pm with my designated group doing crafts, playing games, preparing lunch/snacks, and being the first person to contact in emergency situations. Additionally, when I first moved to Kailua-Kona 6 years ago, my parents joined a Christian non-profit organization called YWAM where I got the opportunity to travel to a variety of nations. I was able to visit children at orphanages and spend one on one time showing them what it's like to have fun and feel loved. Although there was a language barrier, through body language and even eye contact I was able to develop a personal relationship that I still till this day remember and cherish. Going into highschool I wanted to continue my passion working with kids and began volunteering at the Living Stone Church’s nursery in Kailua-Kona where I took care of both infants and toddlers. Over the years, I eventually oversaw the entire nursery as I learned how to check in children, prepare a learning plan, clean the facility, and be the main person of contact. As my priority is not only in the child’s safety, but to make them feel comfortable and welcome at all times, I intend to be welcoming, gentle, and kind just as I would with my own child.
