Lourdes did 1 phone interview, an in-person interview, and a 5-hour day of orientation/intro to our children. Lourdes provided information to assist with verifying her background, and she completed clearances for us. She was prompt and responsive with communication at first, but less prompt and direct after the orientation day. During the phone interview, we fully disclosed the times we needed, as well as discussing the approximate drive time (30 min) for her to reach our house. We also explained that we could be flexible with the start time. At then end of the orientation day, Lourdes stated that she was looking for, at most, a position for 1 year. This was different from what she had said during the in-person interview, when she said she was looking for a long-term position. She also asked to leave earlier than planned the day of the orientation. However, she was kind with the children and genuinely attentive to their safety. After that, we were to move forward with transitioning childcare to Lourdes. She said she'd get back to me about some specifics, and I began to adjust my work schedule accordingly. I needed to follow up with her several times but obtained less clear responses. After directly asking whether she was still interested in the position, she stated she was not due to the times she would be needed and the drive time. We respect that work hours and commute time are important factors in deciding whether to take a job. However, we would have appreciated earlier and more direct communication about this. We narrowed the focus of our search, spent $100 in clearances/etc., are a month later in the search process as a result, and have to rework our employment schedules. We wish Lourdes the best. And we would like to give feedback that we would have preferred to end the process sooner if her concerns re: hours or distance were so strong all along.
