My journey as a caregiver began when I was just 16, after my sister gave birth to my nephew. Each day after school, she would leave for her waitressing job, often working from 4 PM until 3 AM. With no additional support, I stepped into the role of caregiver — learning quickly what it meant to nurture, protect, and support a child. I took on those responsibilities not just out of necessity, but out of love, so my sister wouldn’t have to make the heartbreaking decision to give up her son. From those early days, I knew I was meant to care for children.
