Hello! My name is Emilie Watkins, and I am passionate about working with children and creating a nurturing, educational environment for them. I'm currently completing my studies in Psychology at Hendrix College where I've developed a strong understanding of child development, cognitive processes, and mental health. Alongside my academic journey, I've gained valuable hands-on experience in childcare through various roles, including as a nanny and an overnight camp counselor. In my previous position as a nanny for a private family, I was responsible for managing the daily routines of three children, helping them with homework, organizing after-school activities, and ensuring they adhered to family guidelines. I also focused on promoting their academic and social development, while maintaining clear and open communication with the parents. My role as an overnight camo counselor further honed my skills in supervising children, managing group dynamics, and providing emotions support in a fun and structured Read more setting. I also bring a strong academic background to the table, including my experience as a teaching assistant in the psychology department. As I'm particularly interested in learning disorders and neurodivergence, including ADHD, dyslexia, and autism spectrum disorders, I've spent time conducting research to better understand how these challenges impact children and young adults. This research has deepened my empathy and patience in working with children who may need additional support in their learning and development. I became a caregiver because I genuinely enjoy making a difference in a child's life--whether that's by helping them with schoolwork, teaching them new skills, or simply providing a caring and supportive environment. Working with children allows me to foster creativity, encourage independence, and support their emotional growth. I believe that each child has unique potential, and I love seeing them thrive in environments where they feel safe, encouraged, and valued. What makes me good at this job is my ability to balance structure with flexibility. I'm organized and dependable, but I also know how to adapt to different situations and children's individual needs. I'm a patient listener, and I always strive to create open communication with both children and parents, ensuring everyone is comfortable and well-informed. I'm excited to continue helping children grow and learn while providing the care and attention they deserve.
