I was born in Lima, Peru, and came to the USA in 1984 with my husband (born in Argentina), who was pursuing his graduate studies. We have been married for 42 years, and are the proud parents of four boys, each of them born in a different city: Lima, South Bend (IN), Austin and San Antonio and we have a 4-year-old granddaughter. I love working with children, challenging their wonderful minds with creative games, encouraging them to consider new perspectives, and I am always amazed at how fast they can grasp new concepts. I have been responsible for raising and teaching children since I was 10 years old, beginning with my younger brothers growing up in Peru. As a teenager, I also volunteered at a non-profit center for abandoned babies, “Casa Cuna”, in Lima, helping to care for them until they were introduced to new families. As native Spanish speakers, Read more we raised our boys perfectly bilingual in this country, teaching them Spanish at home and letting them learn English with their friends and in school. Alongside my children, I babysat other kids, helping them develop their Spanish and keeping them engaged with games, art, songs, books, and hands-on cooking lessons. l have also worked as a nanny caring for triplets to help out first-time parents as well as caring for a four year old and a newborn for another family. And I was a daycare worker at the YMCA Austin for two years. In addition, in my 21 years working as a personal chef in San Antonio, I prepared thousands of meals for families and created meaningful connections in our community. I especially found gratification in supporting children by bettering their nutrition through my cooking and bringing them new cultural experiences through unique recipes each week. I specialized in healthy meals and diets for special needs.
