I have always loved working with kids and started babysitting when I was 13-- parents would pick me up before and drop me off after because I couldn't even drive yet! Since then I have continued to babysit/nanny for families, and I have worked with hundreds of kids at a daycare, as a summer camp leader, and as a teacher. While working as an art teacher I was taught to work with children specially using the Nurtured Heart Approach, which encourages caregivers to not give attention to negative behaviors and instead focus on promoting positive ones. This way of working with kids (and everyone) is incredibly effective (positive reinforcement is the greatest motivator in the long run!) and is so powerful because it focuses on love, acceptance and positivity instead of shame and punishment. One quick example of this way of working with kids is speaking in the affirmative by Read more saying something like "walking please!" instead of "no running!". For the last year I have actively been working towards my long term goal of becoming an art therapist, and have been applying to graduate programs to hopefully start in the fall. I love to do arts and crafts and talk about feelings and would be thrilled to get to do this with your child :-)
