As a New York City resident and recent sociology graduate from the University at Albany, I bring five years of experience working closely with children in active, community-based environments. For the past five summers, I have worked as a camp cabin counselor at The Chewonki Foundation located in Wiscasset, ME. While there I was responsible for the safety, well-being, and daily experience of children ages 9 to 14. I helped campers navigate friendships and interpersonal conflicts, adjust to routines, develop independence, and feel comfortable and supported in a group environment. I also assisted with educational and recreational programming and enjoyed finding ways to keep children engaged, active, and excited about what they were doing. My background in sociology has further strengthened my interest in how children develop socially and emotionally and how their environments and relationships shape that development. I value talking with children, listening seriously to their ideas and Read more questions, encouraging their curiosity, and helping them build confidence. I am comfortable in active environments that require flexibility, teamwork, and problem-solving. My experience leading children through outdoor activities and multi-day trips has taught me to stay organized and calm when adapting to changing plans. I am also certified in Wilderness First Aid, First Aid, and CPR/AED through my lifeguarding training, and safety has been a central responsibility throughout my work with children. Having lived in New York my whole life, I am comfortable navigating the city and would be happy to help manage school and preschool logistics, activities, playdates, errands, and the changing needs of a busy family schedule. I am also comfortable contributing to the household through meal preparation, grocery shopping, children’s laundry, and related childcare responsibilities, and I would welcome the opportunity to travel with the family when needed.
