I grew up in a big family so I've always been around children and always loved it. I started working with them in my teens by babysitting my newborn niece and nephew. I continued to do that and volunteered at day cares throughout school. When I started college, I became a camp counselor for the YMCA for 4 years. At the Y, I worked with children ages 5-14 from all different backgrounds and planned and implemented daily activities. During this time, I took many educational courses and minored in Children Studies. I studied American Sign Language for 2 years. I was also certified as a Mental Health Professional and worked at a Residential treatment center for children ages 3-13 with a variety of severe and complex mental health challenges who need intensive supervision and treatment 24 hours a day. Following this,I was a Lead Teacher in a toddler room, where Read more I planned and implemented a curriculum that curated a safe and healthy learning environment. During this time, I decided to get my Masters in Elementary Education and became a part time nanny to get through school. I completed my Masters and it has now been 10 years as a nanny! The first family I worked with was with a 16 month old with another on the way. I stayed with them for 6 years until both were in school. They are now 10 and 8 and I still continue to see them. I, then, worked as a nanny for a family of 3 (newborn-7 years old) and as a homeschool teacher with a “pod” of 4. In the mornings I homeschooled 4 children (5-9 years old) and in the afternoons I nannied the 3 children. We did a balance of fun and educational activities in and out of the house. This was during lock down so I had to be creative in the activities to help cultivate a love for learning and encourage independence and curiosity. After that, I did a nanny share for two infants, ages 3 and 6 months. I was privileged enough to be a part of many of their milestones from crawling to walking to potty training. Two years later we welcomed a new addition to our little group, a newborn infant, to join in with our fun adventures. For 3 years, I worked with them, but unfortunately one of the family moved to another state and that ended our time together. I have worked with children from all different backgrounds and want to continue helping and providing a safe and encouraging environment for both children and parents. I am always open and receptive to new families. I am still and always will be learning. A student for life.
