Hi! Semi-retired here, but I get bored, so I like to be out and helping people. Love children! (Especially preschoolers.) Currently -- and for the past five years -- I've been working as a private duty CNA and in-home Caregiver for elderly and disabled people in a wide variety of circumstances and situations. (Just so you know, to work in the agencies and top upscale retirement communities that I work in, one has to have deep and spotless background checks.) Before that, I worked in a very interesting business developing fun and educational toys for children. My elderly patients mostly have dementia (or extreme fragility) so caring for them requires attentiveness, calmness, understanding, cheerfulness, love, and great patience. They need the same things that young children need: help getting dressed; meal prep; feeding; diaper-changing; bathing; reminders; tucking into bed; cleaning/organizing their things... And LOTS of kindness and patience, with an Read more occasional gentle firmness. I've been doing at-home hospice work (been called 'an angel!' many times)... I help people extend the enjoyment of their lives -- but I'm getting bone-weary of losing clients. Because the traits above transfer exceptionally well to child care, I took a rigorous/demanding online college course on current Child Development to brush up on my 'many-decades-past' college Psychology/Child Development minor. Am excited to bring this practical knowledge to YOUR family! Successfully homeschooled my two children, and am looking forward to helping homeschool my two young grandchildren. (Living in another state but want to move.) Have TONS of interesting books for all ages -- and toys -- which I can bring. I LOVE to read aloud to children and help them read. And painlessly learn new vocabulary and concepts (like colors, letters, hands-on math, cooking, essay writing, even chess!) Can tutor up through Middle School, and SATs (my daughter achieved a perfect Verbal SAT score and a UNC-CH scholarship.) I firmly believe learning should be interesting and FUN! And involve play. (BTW, I'm an expert in play for creative intellectual development, my previous job.) Have a lot of classic and modern toys which I can bring, so things never get boring! Also love to go outdoors, in the yard or local playgrounds/parks in all weather, properly dressed, of course! BTW I don't like doing pick ups and drop offs, or much housework -- prefer to spend the time interacting and DOING things with your precious children. Not looking for a full-time or long-term job, my ideal situation would to have a few families in Durham and Chapel Hill to do part-time and fill-in work with. Also have a very strong immune system, and would consider doing compensated last-minute 'call-ins' for sick children so you can work.
