As a natural supporter, I have been engaged and passionate about caring for and teaching children since high school where I had my first experience teaching preschoolers. From there, I went on to be a certified teacher for 7 years teaching 2nd, 4th, and 7th grade. I have been a camp counselor and director for many summer in between and currently work as a summer mentor for Wild Whatcom, working with children in an outdoor setting. I have been an auntie for 14 years, having lived with my sister for a summer and spent many nights and days babysitting, in all life stages from infant to their pre-teen years. Aside from my experience, I am a warm, soft-hearted person. While I know how to draw boundaries and enforce rules, I do with kindness, empathy, and understanding. From my experience in the classroom to camps, I've come to find that my Read more greatest strength is creating safety in the spaces I step into and by safety, I mean social-emotional safety. Belonging, being seen and heard, and supported are at the top of my list in caring for the whole child first.
