Our son is turning 4 in early June and is wrapping up his first year of special education preschool. He is a curious, energetic little guy who loves being outside. He is verbal and communicates his needs well, though he is speech delayed. As a child with autism, he tends to hyperfocus on spinning objects (wheels on a toy car, or a wheel at the park) and can have difficulty with transitions but he responds really well to a 5-minute verbal warning paired with a visual timer, which makes transitions much smoother. He is actively potty-training.

We are looking for a sitter to cover Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM while both parents work from home. The sitter's primary job is keeping our son engaged and active throughout the morning and midday hours. Both parents will be nearby but unavailable during work hours, so we need someone who can confidently manage the day independently.

Activities will vary but center on outdoor and sensory play, like trips to the park, backyard playtime (sandbox, trampoline, water table), and engaging with toys and activities throughout the home (sensory swing, slide, puzzles, arts and crafts). The caregiver will be responsible for managing transitions between activities using a visual timer system, serving snacks and meals that we prepare in advance, reinforcing and assisting with potty-training, and maintaining a calm and predictable routine that helps him thrive.

We are seeking someone with prior experience working with children on the autism spectrum or with other developmental differences. Familiarity with transition support strategies, visual schedules, or early childhood special education is a big plus. CPR and First Aid certification is required. More than anything, we want someone patient, consistent, and kind who our son will look forward to seeing every week.
