Hello my name is Jason I'm seeking a sitter/caregiver for my 17 yr old nephew Chandler. He is relatively self-sufficient for the most part, He likes to ask a lot of questions, He stims a lot sometimes depending on anxiety or excitement level, (he flaps his hands a lot, rocks back and forth, he likes to shake bottles or other objects in his hands) sometimes he needs help getting dressed depending on attire (he has a hard time with buttons). It seems like he stays thirsty and hungry all the time. He is clingy, because he has abandonment issues. It really doesn't take much effort to care for him, just a lot of patience for his questions and clinginess. Right now he's transitioning from a high demand environment, so he doesn't have any chores to do. His grandmother was forcing him try and grow up and be more independent, she was giving him a lot of chores to do and putting a lot of unrealistic expectations on him, which continually provoked autistic meltdowns. If he starts stimming excessively those are signs he needs to be calmed down, if he starts getting upset it is best to immediately diffuse the situation, I find a hug and rubbing him on the back and speaking softly does the job. He definitely responds better to positive reinforcement than a punitive style of caregiving. His speech has been affected so a lot of times it's hard to understand him until you get used to it, I have to tell him to slow down his speech sometimes and then it comes out clear. He doesn't attend school so right now he doesn't have any educational requirements beside basic learning and teaching skills that whoever's caring for him can provide him, me and my wife take care of the household chores, we are not asking for someone to take over those things for us, all are we are asking for is someone to take care of his basic needs while I'm at work.
