Job Description:
We are seeking a reliable, professional, and comfortable caregiver for my 48-year-old husband, who lives with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). He is active and independent in many ways, but we need consistent help with his morning routine on a daily basis while he is attending the dayrehab program at Shirley Ryan.
Primary Responsibilities:
Bowel Program: Assist with a standard bowel program, including digital stimulation (DIL).
Morning Routine: Assistance with bathing, dressing, and transfers (we have/use specific equipment to make this safe and easy).
Skin Checks: Basic monitoring for skin integrity.
Schedule:
Frequency: Weekdays
Hours: 6:30-8:30. We are flexible on the exact start time for the right person.
Requirements:
Experience: Prior experience with SCI care or a CNA/HHA background is a major plus, but we are willing to train a dedicated nursing/OT/PT student or a highly motivated caregiver.
Comfort Level: You must be comfortable performing digital stimulation as part of a medical bowel program. Also, must be comfortable with dogs as we have 2.
Reliability: Consistency is critical for his health and schedule.
Location: Must have reliable transportation to the streeterville neighborhood in Chicago.
Why this is a great role:
This is a straightforward, 2-hour "in and out" shift. It is perfect for a nursing student looking for clinical hours or a local caregiver looking to add a consistent client to their morning schedule. You will be working in a respectful, positive home environment.
