We have three kids living at home: 22F, 16M and 12M. Our daughter is autistic and has anxiety/agoraphobia and pervasive developmental delay. She is verbal, can read and can generally care for herself (hygiene, shower, etc.) but does require supervision. She is 22 but interacts with others in ways more typical of a 6 or 7 year old. Our 16yr old is neurotypical and self-sufficient (and occasionally babysits for us), and our 12yr old has ADHD and low support needs autism but is also a friendly and fun kid.
We would like a regular babysitter we can call for weekend nights, either Friday or Saturday, for a few hours, and if everyone gets along, we would like to be able to call our babysitter to watch the kids for longer, eight hours or so, as we enjoy taking day trips to Chicago to shop or attend a show.
Your responsibilities would primarily be entertaining and helping our daughter and supervising the 12yr old boy. We haven’t wanted to overburden the 16yr old with caregiving responsibilities although he frequently helps us.
Our daughter has bouts of anxiety that are managed with medication and stress management techniques but do occasionally result in periods of crying and upset. That said, she is more likely to engage the sitter with lots of questions about pets and popular children’s shows like Blue’s Clues.
The 12yr old loves building with LEGO or having Nerf battles, sometimes coloring or sometimes being read to, and of course utilizes screen time.
