My daughter has Down syndrome and requires ongoing medical and feeding support. She has significant feeding difficulties and receives some of her nutrition and hydration through a G-tube. Due to aspiration concerns, she has difficulty safely drinking thin liquids, so her water must be thickened with a prescribed thickening powder to help prevent choking and aspiration.
She also has a history of a congenital heart defect, which has been surgically repaired. Although the repair was successful, she continues to require close monitoring and specialized care related to her overall medical needs.
Because of her medical condition and feeding challenges, she needs daily assistance and supervision to ensure her safety, nutrition, hydration, and overall well-being.
