I love working with children and young people because of their ever-changing and unique needs. It is the type of challenge that I enjoy and embrace. I believe in the power of relationships and strive to build positive rapport and relationships with the young people and their families with whom I work. I've worked with young people for the past 13 years in both the capacity of babysitter and wilderness guide. I am finishing up my graduate degree in clinical social work at NYU and am available on weekends anytime as well as Tues/Wed/Fri evenings. I can help with general childcare but also homework and tutoring. I enjoy planning activities and excursions tailored to your child on days off either in your home or around the city. I seek to understand the needs and goals for each family I work with and to work together to meet them. I have Read more local references and experience working with children who have specific needs. I am an active person that grew up spending a lot of time outdoors at summer camp paddling the boundary waters and worked at this same camp in my early 20's as a guide. I was also a dancer and gymnast growing up. The six years prior to grad school I worked in wilderness therapy in the southwest, where I got into more rights of passage and mental health work ranging from the typical teen and young adult struggles to more clinically complex issues. I am passionate about working with young people - I really enjoy them. I hold CPR/First Aid and WFR certifications and am a certified yoga teacher. I enjoy biking, connecting with loved ones, creative projects, knitting when it's cold and spending time outdoors. I also have a personal meditation practice and have experience instructing and leading young people in meditation. I look forward to the many and varied challenges within any household.

I highly recommend Tess. I have 10-year old twin boys and Tess was an amazing tutor, sitter, animator to them (unfortunately she moved away). She is very punctual and reliable. Never cancelled any appointments and always arrives on time (which is not easy in New York traffic). When it was necessary she helped the boys with their homework. I loved that the homework was always done and checked by the time I come home from work. Tess’s strength also showed during the Spring Break, when she took to boys on day trips. She researched the destinations, drove there, visited the museum/ zoo etc with the boys, had snack with them there and even sent some photos to me. She works in line with my requests, but can handle unexpected situations easily. When my kids’ extracurricular activity was cancelled, she took them for a walk and ice cream (to avoid extra hours on the computer)
